On Wednesday, September 4, 2024, the third quarterly informal briefing on the Global Compact on Refugees was held from 3:00 to 5:00 pm in Room II at the ILO. Representing the Sovereign Order of Malta were H.E. Michel Veuthey, Ambassador to monitor and combat trafficking in persons; Emanuele G. A. Piluso, Attaché and Advisor to the Ambassador; and Cesare Lombardo, an intern. The event provided an opportunity for the Ambassador to speak and reaffirm the importance of addressing human trafficking. He also highlighted the Order’s work for refugees, particularly in Ukraine, Palestine, and Sicily (Italy), where they have been actively providing humanitarian assistance and support. Furthermore, the Ambassador recalled the event organized by the Order of Malta last year on Refugees and Human Trafficking, a high-level event linked to the 2023 Global Refugee Forum and held in collaboration with UNHCR.
Ambassador Veuthey also took the opportunity to promote the upcoming event organized by the Order of Malta and the International Institute of Humanitarian Law of San Remo, co-sponsored by the Permanent Missions of the Holy See and Italy, which will take place on Wednesday, October 16, from 1:00 to 2:30 pm in Room V at the Palais des Nations.
