On July 9, 2026, Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Observer Michel Veuthey was present at the launch of the ICRC’s Digital Emblem Project. Building on the foundations of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and the 1949 Geneva Conventions, this project aims to take the physical emblems already used by physical entities (hospitals, humanitarian staff, etc.) to signal the protection granted to them under IHL and turn them into a technical development in order to flag potentially vulnerable targets (hospitals, etc.) to cyberattacks. The project was presented by the ICRC in collaboration with several partners, including the Swiss Confederation, the ITU, Microsoft, the Saudi Government, and the British and Australian Red Cross societies.
