On Saturday, December 2nd, a Holy Mass, organised by the Sovereign Order of Malta’s Ambassador to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons, Michel Veuthey, with the help of his advisor and executive assistant, Emanuele G. A. Piluso, took place at Notre Dame de Genève Basilica at 6.30 pm. This Mass was organized for the 9th anniversary of the Joint Declaration of Religious Leaders Against Modern Slavery which was adopted on Tuesday December 2nd, 2014, as well as the International Day for the Abolition of Slavery. On that day, the world’s leading faith leaders gathered together at the Casina Pio IV in Vatican City. Global leaders from the Christian, Catholic, Anglican and Orthodox confessions, as well as Buddhist, Hindu, Jewish and Muslim faiths signed the Joint Declaration of Religious Leaders Against Modern Slavery.

The Mass was organized in collaboration with Notre Dame de Genève Basilica, thus it was celebrated by Abbé Pascal Desthieux, Rector of the Basilica, and the homily given by Msgr. Robert J. Vitillo, Secretary General of International Catholic Migration Commission (ICMC). Furthermore, Professeur Veuthey read the Joint Declaration after the homily. The Mass was followed by a reception.
