On Sunday 8 June, Michel Veuthey met with the Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Mr. Gilbert F. Houngbo, accompanied by his Advisor, Ms. Priscilla Pichardo, to inform him about the Conference that the Order of Malta is organizing with the Santa Marta Group and the Institute of Anthropology (IADC) of the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome on December 10, 2025 (“Rome Conference on the 25th Anniversary of the Palermo Protocol. Five Years to Deliver the SDGs”). The Director-General of the ILO expressed great interest and will check his availability. On June 11, a message was sent to Ms. Pichardo to provide her with the provisional program of the Conference.

On June 10, a meeting was scheduled with the Secretary-General of the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC). Unable to come to Nice for health reasons, the meeting was held with Mr. Gilles Ribouet, Head of Communication, accompanied by Ms. Tiana Eva Razafindrakoto, International Technical Expert. It followed a Zoom exchange with UNITAR on the possibility of organizing a course on human trafficking. The IOC representatives expressed their wish that the course focus on the maritime aspects of trafficking and welcomed the fact that it could be part of a cooperation project between the IOC and the Order of Malta, which has an observer status with the IOC. They would also be interested in the Order of Malta’s expertise in disaster risk reduction.
