Prevention of Trafficking in the Context of Refugee Protection, Internal Displacement, and Statelessness

On Tuesday, June 27, 2023, a side-event titled “Prevention of Trafficking in the Context of Refugee Protection, Internal Displacement, and Statelessness” was held at the Palais des Nations in Geneva. This conference was organized by Ms. S. Mullally, the Special Rapporteur on trafficking in persons, in collaboration with UNHCR, the Permanent Mission of Switzerland, the Permanent Mission of Niger, the Permanent Mission of the Philippines, the Permanent Mission of Germany, and the Permanent Mission of Argentina.

Representing the Sovereign Order of Malta, the Ambassador to monitor and combat trafficking in persons, Prof. Michel Veuthey, along with Dott. Emanuele G.A. Piluso, attended the conference. The Ambassador expressed his gratitude to the panelists, particularly S. Mullally and G. Triggs, for their efforts in combating and preventing human trafficking.

Furthermore, the Ambassador intervened underlining the various activities conducted by the Order of Malta, with a special emphasis on the Side-event on Non-punishment of human trafficking victims, which is being organized by the Order of Malta and is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, July 4th. Additionally, he expressed his enthusiasm for enhanced collaboration with UNHCR and the Special Rapporteur.
