We would like to congratulate the Independent Expert and his team for their well-documented report (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/en\/documents\/thematic-reports\/ahrc5132-rethinking-global-peace-and-security-democratic-and-equitable\">A\/HRC\/51\/32<\/a>) on <strong>\u201cRethinking global peace and security: a democratic<br \/>\nand equitable international order in jeopardy\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong>There is an obvious need to reinforce global peace and security, in order to cope with the main challenges and issues at stake.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We need to reaffirm the value of the Charter of the United Nations, especially Articles 1 and 2.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Order of Malta would like to highlight the following statement by the Independent Expert: \u201c<em>More than ever, strong, efficient and inclusive multilateralism, sustained international cooperation and full respect for international law should be the responses to these crises.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Order of Malta welcomes the promotion of a culture of peace and interreligious and intercultural dialogue, and took several initiatives in that respect. Allow me to mention, among others:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Organisation of a Symposium <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orderofmalta.int\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Odm36_-Brochure-Simposio-Ginevra_051015.pdf\">\u201cReligions Together for Humanitarian Action\u201d<\/a> at the Palais des Nations in 2015, which led to the participation to the World Humanitarian Summit (Istanbul, 2016). The Order of Malta intervened in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orderofmalta.int\/news\/the-sovereign-order-of-malta-at-whs-in-istanbul\/\">Special Session on Religious Engagement<\/a> focusing on the role of religious institutions and faith-based organizations in humanitarian contexts.<\/li>\n<li>Drafting of a \u201dReligious Compact\u201d <em>Religions in Action<\/em>, together with experts and representatives of the main monotheistic religions, which summarizes the principles and values shared by different faiths.<a href=\"\/\/4858FFB4-7635-4C08-8BF6-E0BB94220A2D#_ftn1\" name=\"_ftnref1\">[1]<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.orderofmalta.int\/news\/the-sovereign-order-of-malta-at-the-global-interfaith-summit-in-dubai-on-international-day-of-tolerance\/\">Participation<\/a> in the 2021 <a href=\"https:\/\/virtualexpodubai.com\/listen-watch\/events\/global-interfaith-summit-toward-a-compassionate-world-through-tolerance-and\">Global Interfaith Summit in Dubai<\/a> and the G20 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orderofmalta.int\/news\/conclusion-of-g20-interfaith-forum-order-of-malta-contributions-range-from-promoting-dialogue-to-combatting-human-trafficking\/\">Interfaith Dialogue Forum in Bologna<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Organisation of the meeting of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orderofmalta.int\/press-releases\/second-day-of-the-transatlantic-policy-network-on-religion-and-diplomacy\/\">Transatlantic Policy Network on Religion and Diplomacy on the 16<sup>th<\/sup> of June 2022<\/a>.
