We would like to congratulate the Special Rapporteur and his team for their well documented report <u>(<\/u><a href=\"https:\/\/undocs.org\/A\/HRC\/48\/52\">A\/HRC\/48\/52<\/a>) on the <strong>\u201cNexus between displacement and contemporary forms of slavery\u201d<\/strong>.<br \/>\nThe Order of Malta <a href=\"https:\/\/nohumantrafficking.orderofmalta.int\/en\/2021\/03\/24\/contribution-order-of-malta-special-rapporteur-contemporary-forms-slavery\/\">contributed<\/a> to this Report.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.orderofmalta.int\/\">The Sovereign Order of Malta\u00a0<\/a>assists\u00a0<strong>displaced persons around<\/strong>\u00a0the world through social services by its national Associations or through humanitarian aid carried out by its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orderofmalta.int\/sovereign-order-of-malta\/national-institutions\/\">National Institutions<\/a> and its worldwide humanitarian organization,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.malteser-international.org\/en\/about-us\/current-topics\/refugees-and-displacement.html\">Malteser International<\/a>. The Order of Malta collaborates with Governments, international organizations such as the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, UNODC, IOM, regional organizations, universities, foundations and religious congregations in its fight against contemporary forms of slavery. The Order of Malta would like to highlight the value of the concrete action of many religious congregations in the protection and rehabilitation of\u00a0<strong>victims of contemporary forms of slavery.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Allow me to briefly describe the Order of Malta&#8217;s contribution to the fight against human trafficking<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>(1) Raising awareness <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Through its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orderofmalta.int\/de\/diplomatische-aktivitaten\/bilaterale-beziehungen\/\">bilateral <\/a>(110 States) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orderofmalta.int\/de\/diplomatische-aktivitaten\/multilaterale-beziehungen\/\">multilateral <\/a>diplomatic network, organizing and participating in conferences<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>(2) Assisting victims through medical and social programs <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Through its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orderofmalta.int\/de\/malteserorden\/nationale-institutionen\/\">National Associations <\/a>and its worldwide humanitarian organization <a href=\"https:\/\/www.malteser-international.org\/de.html\">&#8220;Malteser International&#8221;.<\/a><\/li>\n<li>With a pilot project in Lagos: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orderofmalta.int\/de\/2019\/04\/02\/einweihung-zentrums-bakhita-lagos-unterstuetzung-frauen-opfer-menschenhandel-sind\/\">&#8220;Bakhita Centre&#8221; <\/a>with <a href=\"https:\/\/stlouissisters.org\/news\/113-2012\/154-patricia-ebegbulem-ssl-receives-highest-papal-award\">Sr Patricia Ebegbulem, SSL <\/a>(Sisters of Saint Louis)<\/li>\n<li>Gathering and disseminating good practices on the site <a href=\"http:\/\/www.christusliberat.org\/\">www.christusliberat.org<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>(3) Training caregivers online <\/strong>(in English and soon French on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cuhd.org\/\">www.cuhd.org <\/a>)<br \/>\nand establishing partnerships with universities (Webster, Geneva, and Nice)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Webster: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=_KeDIf32ax0&amp;feature=youtu.be\">&#8220;The Use and Abuse of High Technology in Human Trafficking<\/a>&#8221; (2020).<\/li>\n<li>Nice: Research Center (2021) (<a href=\"https:\/\/univ-cotedazur.fr\/clinique-juridique-analyse-juridique-de-lintegration-des-reglementations-europeennes\">&#8220;Legal Clinic&#8221;) on the implementation of the 2011\/36 European Union Directive <\/a><br \/>\n<strong>(4) Organizing 12 webinars on human trafficking <\/strong>( <a href=\"http:\/\/www.adlaudatosi.org\/\">www.adlaudatosi.org<\/a> ) with Chinese, English, French, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bigmarker.com\/cuhd-coll-ge-universitaire\/Religi-se-die-sich-f-r-die-Genesung-der-Opfer-von-Menschenhandel-einsetzen-VIDEO-AUF-ANFRAGE?utm_bmcr_source=adlaudatosi_org\">German, Italian, Russian and Spanish subtitles <\/a>in cooperation with Sr. Mirjam Beike, Congregation of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rgs.care\/\">Sisters of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd (RGS)<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Order of Malta supports the recommendations of the Special Rapporteur calling upon Member States to ratify and implement all relevant international and regional instruments that prohibit human trafficking.
